BIO
Damián «Vega» Velasco (Langreo 1980) Visual artist. Technician in Printmaking (Oviedo School of Art). He completed his training at the Litografía Viña Print Center (Gijón). He works from the perspective of multiple art and graphic work. His work includes drawings, prints, murals, visuals, artist’s books. His most recent work focuses on the artistic representation of the industrial landscape with a documentary character and incorporating new technologies into traditional printing techniques.
In 2016 he moved to Ljubljana (Slovenia) where he held several individual and group exhibitions around the urban landscape of the Slovenian capital. His stay was linked to MGLC (Ljubljana International Museum of Graphic Art) where he collaborates as a technician in the organization and design of the 31st Graphic Art Biennial and teaches experimental printmaking workshops on the occasion of the retrospective exhibition “Tàpies: Grafika 1959 – 1987 ”(Tapiès Foundation – MGLC) The same year, he received the Art Nalón award in Langreo, Asturias with a selection of graphic work inspired by the industrial landscape of the Asturian coalfields vallyes: “Graphic Work 2014-2016”
Since 2017 he regularly exhibits in Norway where he has was selected for FLOOD 2019 residence (Dalane Culture Festival + Rogaland Kunstsenter) in the Rogaland region. Since 2018 he works on the project “VERTICAL: Castilletes of coal mining in Asturias” at Laboral Center for Art and Industrial Creation through the residence “Laboral Impulsa”(2018-2019). The project is produced by the Municipal Culture Foundation of the Gijón City Council and has the support of Impulsa Gijón and various institutions in the region related to industrial heritage.
Damián “Vega” Velasco (Langreo 1980) Artista visual. Técnico en grabado y estampación (Escuela de Arte de Oviedo). Completa su formación en el Centro de estampación artística Litografía Viña (Gijón). Trabaja desde la perspectiva del arte múltiple y la obra gráfica. Su obra comprende dibujos, estampas, murales, visuales, libro de artista. Su obra mas reciente se centra en la representación artística del paisaje industrial con carácter documental e incorporando nuevas tecnologías a técnicas tradicionales de impresión.
En 2016 se desplaza a Ljubljana (Eslovenia) donde realiza varias exposiciones colectivas e individuales en torno al paisaje urbano de la capital eslovena. Su estancia estuvo ligada a MGLC (Museo Internacional de Arte Gráfico de Ljubljana) donde colabora como técnico en la organización y diseño de la 31 Bienal de Arte Gráfico e imparte talleres de grabado experimental con motivo de la exposición retrospectiva “Tàpies: Grafika 1959 – 1987” (Fundación Tapiès – MGLC) El mismo año recibe en Langreo el premio Art Nalón con una selección de obra gráfica inspirada por el paisaje industrial de las cuencas mineras asturianas: “Obra Gráfica 2014-2016”
Desde 2017 expone habitualmente en Noruega donde ha sido seleccionado para la residencia FLOOD 2019 (Dalane Culture Festival + Rogaland Kunstsenter) en la región de Rogaland. Desde 2018 trabaja en el proyecto “VERTICAL: Castilletes de la minería del carbón en Asturias” en Laboral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial a través de la residencia “Laboral Impulsa”
(2018-2019). El proyecto está producido por Fundación Municipal de cultura del Ayuntamiento de Gijón y cuenta con el apoyo de Impulsa Gijón y varias instituciones de la región relacionadas con el patrimonio industrial.
